Chorley Community Housing

22 new homes built by the Adactus Housing Group have been let in Chorley. The handover of Duxbury Manor, close to Frederick’s Ice Cream on the A6, took place in April with tenants moving straight in. Alison Mitchell was amongst the first families to get a set of keys. Alison said: “I love it. It really is a dream home and my neighbours are very nice. I’ve had no problems since I move in and really do enjoy living here.” …

Under current government plans, from April next year tenants of working age who are under occupying their properties by one or more bedrooms will have their housing benefit cut and will have to make up the shortfall themselves. As approximately 60% of Adactus tenants rely on benefits to pay a proportion or all of their rent, this would have significant implications for many of our tenants. Adactus Housing in conjunction with Active Living from Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust are running activities for sheltered housing residents to get fit and have some fun at the same time. The activity programme includes a great variety of exercises for local people. It offers a safe, effective and enjoyable physical activity for residents across the borough in a range of local and accessible Community and Leisure venues. The Neighbourhood Fund is a substantial pot of money controlled by our tenants to support projects and initiatives in the local area. We originally set up the Fund in 2010 to make sure our customers benefited directly from the cost efficiencies made to the business.
