Freestyle comes to Heysham
An innovative street soccer programme that is designed to keep youths out of mischief is coming to Heysham.
Freestyle Urban Soccer is a Chorley based company that provides temporary sports facilities in areas where children would otherwise have little or no opportunity to take part in organised sporting activity.
Three football sessions using Freestyle’s unique inflatable football arenas are taking place in early April. The sessions, which are free to attend, have been sponsored by Adactus Housing Association.
Lindsay Greenhalgh, Neighbourhood Development Officer with Adactus Housing Association, said: “We are sponsoring Freestyle to run three afternoon sessions over the Easter holidays at Heysham High School. Each session starts at 12pm and there’s no need to book. The idea is that anyone under the age of 18 who wants to can just turn up and take part.”
The sessions are due to take place on Monday 2nd April, Wednesday 4th April and Wednesday 11th April.
Lindsay added: “We’ve worked with Freestyle in other parts of Lancashire and had a great turn out from kids on estates. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work in Heysham.”
As well as providing children with an opportunity to take part in physical exercise, Freestyle’s staff are trained in youth counselling and can provide other support and advice to teenagers on issues they may not feel able to talk to other adults about.
Lindsay said: “The scheme is being funded by Adactus Housing Association’s Neighbourhood Fund. If anyone wants any more information about the sessions they can contact me on 0845 505 3355.”
