Paul’s Wall June 2012
Only a short post this month but hopefully it will be of interest.
I have been invited to a meeting later this month arranged by the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Grant Shapps MP to discuss transparency and tenant involvement in the housing association sector.
The Minister has informed those attending the meeting that we will have an opportunity to ask him questions about transparency or other related subjects.
So, this is a call to tenants of Adactus HA Ltd, Beech HA Ltd and Chorley Community Housing Ltd: What question would you like me to ask the Minister?
Please leave your question below and I promise I will put the best one forward to the Minister.
See you soon – Paul Lees

Phil, a similar point was raised at the meeting today by someone else. In answer, the Minister drew a distinction between housing associations and private landlords due to: 1) the different amounts of public money invested in their properties; and 2) the different lines of accountability they have i.e. private companies are primarily accountable to their shareholders whereas we are trying to work for the benefit of society.
Thanks Phil. That’s a good point.
We as an Active Residents group, are always thriving to improve our environment, with the help of Adactus and local council, police. We have made great strides.Where we have problems is with Private Sector landlords, whom own property that is in disrepair, which is often overcrowded. The Landlords seem to be oblivious to the problems their tenants create. This includes A.S.B. fly tipping. They do not seem accountable for the condition of their property,or the people they put in them.Trying to find out the owners of said properties is very hard, time consuming. How can you resolve these type of problems. You say you would like to see Transparency, there is none here.
