Paul Joyce helps win the 2012 University Challenge.
Paul Joyce a postgraduate student and chair of the board of Chorley Community Housing has helped his team win the BBC2 quiz show ‘University Challenge’. Paul was one of four students representing The University of Manchester in this year’s university challenge.
Alongside students Luke Kelly, Michael McKenna and Tristan Burke, Paul Joyce helped beat five Oxbridge college teams to reach the winning post. Their team won the final against Pembroke College with 180 points against the 135 scored by Pembroke.
This is the third time The University of Manchester has won the competition hosted by Jeremy Paxman in the last seven years. This is a commendable achievement and in particular this year that 120 universities entered the competition nationwide.
Having kept the result a secret, Paul was finally able to relax and enjoy the show when it aired on Monday 19 March. Paul watched the show with his friends and supporters in the student pub ‘The Ducie Arms’, in Manchester.
When asked about his team’s achievement, Paul Joyce said: “It’s very good that we’ve won – I’m well chuffed. It was great fun to be a part of.”
