£26 million improvements are now underway!
DVDs about the improvement works are now available! Ask at reception for your free copy!
One of the major benefits of the housing transfer to our tenants was the biggest ever investment in improving their homes with £26 million being spent. An entry survey will be done on every property to determine what works will have to be done. Everyone is entitled to a kitchen, bathroom and electrical work but in some cases a further extent of work will be undertaken. These works include:
- New kitchen
- New bathroom with over bath shower
- Redecoration of kitchen and bathroom
- Two rows of tiling in the bathroom
- Central heating where there is none present or where the system needs replacing (853 homes)
- Choice of electrical fire or gas fire (unless the gas fire is linked to a back boiler we are replacing) as secondary heating
- Full rewire to 713 properties
- Replacement of single sockets with double sockets where possible (all other properties)
- Wired smoke alarms
- PVCu double gazed windows
- Replacement of soffits and fascias to 1122 properties
- Fencing to 323 front gardens
- Off street parking for 985 vehicles, where this can be acheived.
During the improvement programme we are undergoing a Disabled Adaptation Scheme which was started in January 2009. Tenants may feel that they may benefit from special adaptations to their property. If this is the case or if anyone is worried about the work being done then they should contact Tammie Mortar on 01257 424823.
We had originally planned to carry out this huge project over five years but now expect to complete it in less than four years. It means our tenants will not only get new kitchens and bathrooms much quicker but all the improvement work inside their homes will be done at the same time reducing disruption. There will be less disruption because we will install the kitchens and bathrooms at the same time along with any other refurbishment planned for each home. This has also reduced cost by accelerating the improvement programme and doing the inside of each home in its entirety.
The expansion to our plans is bringing enormous benefits to people living in our homes. The improvement programme is now well underway with homes in Chorley having their new kitchens and bathrooms fitted with Coppull and Adlington next on the list.
You can see a timetable of when your street will be improved in our latest improvements newsletter. To see the newsletter, click here
Another benefit of the improvement programme is that our tenants can choose the colour and style of their fittings for the first time. Their kitchens are also individually planned with them by the contractors.
There are open days being held before work starts in your area. At these open days kitchen units are displayed, as are bathroom suites, tiles and floor choices. We have a range of goodies to give away and we invite our suppliers along to demonstrate products to the residents. It is often the case that tenants cannot make this open day or feel that they require further information on a smaller scale - this is where Bullocks will host a mini open day or coffee morning.
